Taquería Juquilita is named after a town in Oaxaca, Mexico. The town is famous for the Santuario de Nuestra Señora Inmaculada de Juquila, which houses a revered statue of the Virgin Mary.
The name “Juquila” derives from the Nahuatl word Xiuquilla, meaning “place where the blue quelite abounds” or “place of beautiful legumes.” The town’s origins date back to around 1272 when it was settled by a Mixtec community.
