Shinsaegae means “New World.” 신세계백화점 (선물센터/백화점)
This is not a Western-style department store, but a large gift shop devoted to traditional Korean items, such as quilts, baby hanbok clothing, norigae, masks, fans, souvenirs, trinkets, short Korean-style dinner tables, and ceramics.
안깎아도 싸다는 집! 김스전기 Kim’s Home Center is Koreatown’s Ikea + Bed, Bath & Beyond. Coffee grinders, rice cookers, 49-cent chopstick holders, $1500 kimchi refrigerators… Hardware stuff like small hammers… Korean cosmetics like the Tony Moly brand… Does carry onggi like ddukbaegi (earthenware cooking pots).
In 2010, the Los Angeles City Council formally declared Koreatown's borders as Western Avenue, Olympic Boulevard, Vermont Avenue, and 3rd Street, with a business corridor on Western from 3rd to Rosewood Avenue.
