DESI is a term for the people, cultures, and products of the Indian subcontinent or South Asia and their diaspora, derived from the Ancient Sanskrit देश (deśá or deshi), meaning country. DESI nations include India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Burma, Nepal and the Maldives. The Koreatown area of Los Angeles has a notable Desi population, especially from Bangladesh.
