LATEST UPDATE: After the fiasco at Assi Market on 8th & Oxford, the APPLES counter that was in there has moved to 849 South Vermont Avenue. Western-style pastries, breads and cakes. This 8th Street location inside ASSI supermarket normally open until 9:00 pm. As of November 28 (Friday), the shop remains open despite the 2014 reorganization at ASSI. Their 3rd Street location was known as “Flour Etc.”
Korean-owned coffee shop opened by the Rhee family in July 2013. The adjacent supermarket ASSI was shut down by the L.A. County Health Department in September 2014 due to indications of rodent infestation. UPDATE: Starting in October 2014 and as of January 2015, ASSI Market has been undergoing eviction and forced bankruptcy proceedings. On January 21, 2015, the judge approved the eviction, and the building owner has stated he will give ASSI a few days to move out. Being on a sublease, the coffee shop will also be evicted.
