On January 21, 2015, a Los Angeles County judge approved the eviction of Assi Market from 8th & Oxford due to non-payment of rent. By January 26, the market had been forced into receivership.

Opened in 1998 by the Rhee family, ASSI was a Korean supermarket notorious in the community for labor disputes, illegal sales, and health-department closures due to rodent infestation, the last such closure being in September 2014.
