Yakiniku, meaning “grilled meat”, is a Japanese term that, in its broadest sense, refers to grilled meat cuisine.
“Yakiniku” originally referred to western “barbecue” food, the term being popularized by Japanese writer Kanagaki Robun in his Seiyo Ryoritsu in 1872.
