In South Korea, the word ramyeon (라면) refers to the instant noodles known more commonly around the world as ramen… The word is also frequently transliterated into English by Koreans as ramyun… Instant noodles were first produced by the company Samyang Food in 1963 under technical assistance from Japan’s Myojo Foods Corporation, which provided the manufacturing equipment.
