In 2011, the iconic California Market on the corner of 5th Street & Western Avenue closed to make room for the construction of THE G, a new Gaju Marketplace Shopping Center. (The California Market on Beverly & Kingsley remains open.)
Current plans show that this new California Marketplace will be 80,000 square feet. There will a ground floor market, a second floor with restaurants and retail, and a third floor with a few restaurants/retail and a large open patio area. The height of the building will be 48 feet with decorative parapets rising to 60 feet. There is no intent to allow bars as tenants.
Estimated date for completion is 2013.
